THE BROKEN

As a child I always had a hunch for broken things
I never threw away my broken toys, be it broken marbles, broken pieces of plastic
I never threw away broken things
I would always collect broken pieces of glass and other things ruined
My mother called me the child of ruins
For  I loved anything and everything a little battered and bruised, a little tattered and rough, a little broken and ruined
I always had a hunch for broken things
I kept and collected these pieces of glass
Like they were my most valuable treasures
And maybe they were
I always had a hunch for broken things
But as I grew up I realized this had a deeper meaning
And maybe I am the child of ruins
Born for darkness and rage
And thunderstorms and mighty cages
Maybe I was never meant for bright days and sunshine
For I was bound to fall in love with dark and gloomy skies
For anyone can love the mended and repaired
I was the one made for broken things and despair
I always had a hunch for broken things
And I never threw away the broken pieces
For I have a broken heart and a shattered soul
But that doesn’t mean I’ll throw it away
For I have a heart that has been broken over and over again
But the heart though fragile, broken, vulnerable, is still mine
I’ve always had a hunch for broken things
We are all a little broken
We are all in pieces
For I’m not the only one who can love these ruins
We are all children of ruins
We were risen from the broken ashes and we will go back to the broken ashes
I’ve always had a hunch for broken things
For all can love the sweet and lovable and perfect let me be the one to love the broken beyond repair
Let me be known as the child of ruins
Carve these words on the stone of my grave
Let me be known as the warrior of dark gloomy skies
And let these ruins merely be a speck in my dull dark mind
I’ve always had a hunch for broken things
For everyone’s a little broken and so are you mother so are you
And let this child of yours be the reckless of all
For being broken is in my blood, bones and soul.
