ORDINARY

Sometimes when you’ve lost yourself completely, and you’re not living anymore, but the world still turns, think about the ordinary; like your everyday morning coffee and its smell, how it bubbles and brews while you stand leaning on the countertop humming a tune – far old than you are- under your breath and the beams of sunlight that enter through your window blinds because you forgot to close the blinds again, and the way your sheets smell like spilled coffee, and you favorite scented candle and like your and like you. Think about the regular and ordinary because there something beautiful about ordinary, something comforting, ordinary is home and it’s the home that we forget about.Ordinary is beautiful and it’s safe and sometimes safe is everything our heart desires. So when you are sitting on the subway, trying too hard to just merge into your seat, with all the chaos and traffic and crowd, think about your mother cooking you favourite food or your dog jumping at you when you come home from work, or when at lunch break you sit with your friends talking and laughing and sharing meals and memories, think about something you don’t give much thought too because it happens every day, it’s a regular thing. Think about the normality for once, think about regular and everyday.

I have found solace in living in my head and in my dreams, so when I feel myself slipping in oblivion, into crowds or into empty spaces, I close my eyes and think about the beautiful extraordinary ordinary. I think about sitting in my room with its floral wall paper and all the books that I have, arranged in a particular manner that only I know, I think about running my finger tips along the spines of those books and picking out one and random and opening to not any particular page and reading the random snippets and lines if the book because after all what is life; it’s the random snippets and line, random scenes and memories, random words and phrases. Life is random moments I collect, life is ordinary and when I think like that life is beautiful.
